Finding care starts with a name.

A local clinic or a licensed online visit is a place to ask about care. Get the care professional’s name, the pharmacy’s name and a clear plan for questions.

A room or a screen?

In person

Bring your medicine list and jot down what you hope to change. Ask what the visit covers before you go.

Telehealth

This means care by video, phone or another remote exchange. Ask how the care professional reviews your history and how questions go back and forth.

Under the usual New York rules in September 2026, a doctor needs a New York licence for telehealth care of someone in Brooklyn.

The state medical boards’ national group says screen visits must provide the same level of care as in-person visits, in guidance checked in September 2026.

Ask what happens if the visit calls for an exam or a test that cannot be done on a screen.

Get the name. Then check it.

A pharmacy registration is its state record of permission to operate or, for an out-of-state pharmacy, to send medicine into New York.

New York’s Education Department has a free search for doctor licences and pharmacy registrations, checked in September 2026.

Ask for the full professional name and licence details. Search the state record rather than relying on a badge shown on a care website.

For public charges or state action against a doctor for professional wrongdoing, use the Health Department search, available in September 2026.

Check public charges or state action against a doctor

Finding no public action in a record proves nothing about care quality and does not reveal every past complaint.

Which pharmacy would send the medicine?

Ask for its name before paying. Use that name in the state search, too.

As of September 2026, a pharmacy based in another state normally needs New York registration to mail prescription medicine to you in Brooklyn.

It also needs permission to operate in the state where it is based.

If a pharmacy says it does not need New York registration, ask which state exception applies. Check that answer with the state before paying.

Ask how to reach its pharmacist and which name will appear on the medicine label. Get a clear answer if the service’s name and the pharmacy’s name differ.

What to bring to the care visit

  1. Your goal, in your words

Say what you hope will change. Bring a list of current medicines, supplements and past treatments.

  2. The reason for the choice

Ask why this medicine fits your health problem. Ask which studies in people support using it and which other treatments could be discussed.

  3. The follow-up plan

Ask what could go wrong for you and how it would be handled. Ask who answers questions between visits.

  4. The written bill

Ask for ongoing care fees, the medicine cost and any tests as separate lines. Ask what happens if no treatment is prescribed.

Notes behind these answers

  1. A

New York’s September 2026 guidance allows exceptions, such as an out-of-state doctor consulting with a New York doctor. The national board policy describes the care standard; it is guidance.

  2. B

New York splits licence records and public records of action against doctors between the Education and Health departments. Both searches matter.

  3. C

New York’s pharmacy law covers mail from pharmacies outside the state, as of September 2026. The state may waive its registration for a pharmacy sending no more than 600 prescriptions into New York in a year.
